# 115 - Valparaíso

Everybody told us not to dare leave Chile without visiting Valparaíso. So off we went and took several means of public transportation and arrived in the city. Instead of finding an idyllic beach town we saw many shop windows on the main street being covered with metal sheets and workers welding to protect the shops from some rougher protesters.

But we also got to see another side of Valparaíso. The hills were full of cute little artisan shops and beautifully preserved pedestrian areas, with art covering many walls. We saw people sitting together next to their stands and students protesting peacefully in front of the municipal court.
