# 107 - La Portada and the birds in Antofagasta

With the help of the two sisters we came in contact with one of the few Greeks left in Antofagasta. Dimitris came to pick us up with his car and showed us around the city. He told us about his family and his great-grandfather who came to Antofagasta almost a hundred years ago.

The highlight of our tour was the natural monument La Portada, a rock formation resisting the power of the waves due to the bird droppings accumulated over decades, giving it a natural protection against erosion. It's where the desert meets the Pacific ocean. With a bit more luck we would have seen penguins, gulls, boobies, cormorants and many other birds that are nesting there but maybe it was too cold even for them..

Windy and very very cold.. for some of us

Bird poo saved the world! Ok, the rock.
