# 68 - Ayacucho

Arriving late in the evening our couchsurfer stood us up. It’s rare, but it happens. On the way to an hospedaje we witnessed an unpleasant scene. A guy was holding a young woman by the wrists and was talking to her while she clearly wanted nothing more than him to let go. We went and started asking the guy random stuff. Directions, recommendations, .. After a while we asked him to let go of the woman and when he did so she jumped straight into a cab. Talking to the guy felt super strange. He was smiling the whole time, still we could feel his agressive vibes. It was not our business, but we didn’t ignore the situation nonetheless. The reason we are telling this story is that we appeal to everybody who is witnessing a person being threatened. At first the situation seemed harmless and we almost walked past them.

The next day we saw Ayacucho on its bright side. On Sundays the main square is closed for cars. Indigenous women were making muyuchi (traditional Ayacuchano ice cream) and we had a coca leaf tea in a café overviewing the square.
