# 96 - Financial summary Peru

How do we deal with our expenses? We have a little booklet in our wallet and we write down every single Sol we spend.

10    lunch
  3    mototaxi
  2,5 water
  0,5 toilet fee

And so on. By the end of a country we do our summary and check what total amount we wrote down. We then compare it with the amount we withdrew. For some reason those two numbers never match, even though they should. We welcome any advice on that matter. In Peru for example we have 80,60 Soles we cannot account for. It’s not crazy money we are talking about but it is a little frustrating. Then we calculate everything in categories. For Peru that’s our breakdown:

Food and drinks:     1766,60 Soles ≈ 477 €
Transportation:          546,40 Soles ≈ 148 €
Accommodation:        179,00 Soles ≈  48 €
Miscellaneous:            332,90 Soles ≈  90 €

We cannot account for: 80,60 Soles ≈  22 €
-------------------------------------------------------
                                  2905,50 Soles ≈ 785 €

“Food and drinks” was, as expected, our biggest item. We have to eat after all. For “Transportation” we managed to save quite a bit. Hitchhiking ;-) We only stayed in three hospedajes (six nights in total), so “Accommodation” is also a very small item on our list. Different bits and pieces we bought, toilet fees we had to pay, etc are in the category “Miscellaneous”. And then of course those annoying 80,60 Soles that went missing in the universe.

Calculating our average daily expenses we have the following:
2905,50 Soles : 49 days in Peru = 59,30 Soles we spent each day (on average of course)
(that’s 29,60 Soles per day per person)

With 8 € we each spent per day, we broke our record!!!!! :-)
