# 48 - San Cristóbal de las Casas

We booked a ticket for the night bus from Oaxaca to San Cristóbal de las Casas, but were warned about groups of armed robbers, that stop buses and take what they wish from the passengers. So we took precautions and hid our valuables in the curtains of our window seat. Luckily after a 15-hour drive we arrived unharmed and unrobbed.

We headed straight to our Couchsurfer Eric, who took us to his bar and gave us a warm welcome (see next post).

San Cristóbal de las Casas was a place we liked the moment we stepped foot on it. An alternative, artistic vibe was ever-present and there were always things to do and see and interesting people to meet.

We kept trying new food, learned more about the Zapatista uprising, visited a printing workshop, found a board game café, got to hear the indigenous Tzeltal language  and marvelled at the Toniná pyramid complex.
And we made many friends. Leaving was hard, so instead of staying two nights, we stayed four.

San Cris!! Highly recommended! :-)
